African Ethos

Studio for Traditional African musical instruments, tuition and source of live African music performers. The studio is run by Ethnomusicologist Gavin Coppenhall and focuses on promoting traditional African music, from the manufacture of musical instruments to the performance of African music and dance. We are the main provider of South African Xhosa type marimbas and drums to schools, traditional African music groups and churches in Cape Town and also provide instruments nationally and internationally.

We manufacture instruments of the highest quality while retaining an excellent sound quality. Instruments include: marimbas, drums, mbiras, log xylophones, African harps etc. We also provide a back up service and repairs. Tuition in the performance of a variety of traditional African music styles is also provided at the studio.
